I have made the decision to not let the myriad of coding implementation possibilities get in the way of just having a place to enter some notes. I want to build my own basic blog project but there is always something in the way. So many tools and technologies to learn and in the mean time i have nowhere to jot down memories or the process of building these other projects.

Even from a young age i loved the idea of regular journalling, but never could be consistent. At some point i just realized that wasn’t me and forgave myself for never doing it consistently. But on the flip side i love coming back to old diaries or blogs and stepping into the thoughts and feelings of that past moment.

Many years ago i learned about an activity my cousin did. When an exciting memory occurred, write it down and put it in a jar. At the end of the year you open and read all the memories. I tried that in digital form, and many of the older posts here will be from that attempt of memory logging.

Last summer while visiting New England with mom we stopped by a family friend. In our catch up conversation about what was new I has standard replies with not much, same old etc. Not sure how the conversation went exactly but it resulted in the revelation…

We must seek out the gold nugget memories each day.

This stuck with me all summer. Made me realize 90% of our actions each day are the same, so it’s easy to remember them and to also get bored with them. By becoming aware of the small changes or special moments each day we can treasure the fleeting time we have. By blogging regularly we can recall and reflect on the day more easily. But even if i forgot to blog regularly and put posts up months later about events that is also fine. I need to practice self forgiveness. There are no rules.

The following are some prompts that i hope will inspire me each day.

  • Whats one thing you want to remember about today 10 year from now?
  • Remember all senses – whats something interesting you smelled, saw, heard, felt or tasted today?
  • What did you learn today?
  • What is something you want to start learning?
  • How did you feel upon waking up vs noon vs going to bed?
